I would like to put in a plug for the Sanata Clara county campgrounds.
Less well know than the state campgrounds you are more likely to find something on a first come firs serve basis near the bay area.   No showers but great camping.   I have been to Uvas and Madonna, not sure of the others. http://gooutsideandplay.org/  Gary
