I recall a Boston Bob video on the list some time back where he discusses this with Jim Akiba, I believe. I never gave much thought to how important this was until seeing the video. Bob is in a better place now but lives on through the wisdom that he imparted in his archived posts and videos. Rest in Peace Bob til we meet again. It might be a good time to check the crankshaft end play, but I would not change it. The shims control the end float of the crankshaft. They go on the other side. (Between the flywheel and the crankshaft.) The machining on a flywheel is on the side away from the crank. As long as it's the same flywheel being mated to the same crankshaft, I would not change a thing. (Which I am doing in the morning.)
