I just met a tourist from Norway who has Magirus - Deuz 4-inline diesel in the Westy and 297,000 km on that engine with not a single problem. He told me that in old days ( 40 + years ago ) one could get excellent Kloeckner - Gumboldt diesel 55 - 65 hp diesels (used in tractors) which were compact to be installed in Vanagons. As usually happens companies making exc. products both went down .
