That gives you trouble getting *out* of gear -- I can't remember
whether there was an issue getting into gear as well (my very first
Vanagon Driving Experience, in Scotland, began with a failure already
in progress and I remember a bit of a stiff shoulder.  After a week
it failed hard and wouldn't come out of fourth, period.
