On a related note, I recently replaced the fuel lines (sourced from one of the Vanagon vendors) on my 86 Syncro. I reused the plastic "sheaths" that cover the main lines off of the "T". Since then, I've noticed some black "goo" oozing out the ends from between the sheath and rubber hose... Like sticky gooey melty rubber. So, I pulled a hose, slid the sheath back, cleaned off the "goo" and the hose is fine. Any idea what this stuff is and whether I should be concerned? Thanks, James V 86 Syncro Westy, etc.
