ectoplasm you've uncovered a portal. I reused sheaths also. I had 2 used sets to choose from and i picked out the most pliable ones. All of them still had traces of wax on them (dealer applied wax in engine compartment) and I cleaned them inside and out with solvent. So no goo to start with. Did you clean yours first too? What brand of fuel line did you use? alistair On 3-Jun-10, at 4:13 PM, James V wrote: On a related note, I recently replaced the fuel lines (sourced from one of the Vanagon vendors) on my 86 Syncro. I reused the plastic "sheaths" that cover the main lines off of the "T". Since then, I've noticed some black "goo" oozing out the ends from between the sheath and rubber hose... Like sticky gooey melty rubber. So, I pulled a hose, slid the sheath back, cleaned off the "goo" and the hose is fine. Any idea what this stuff is and whether I should be concerned?
