The digital clock stays on as long as the battery is good and the fuse for
the interior lights and radio is good. The light in the clock is controlled
with the dash lights. For the rest of the stuff, ignition switch, load
reduction relay, cross connection or short in the fuse box.

Subject: Phantom power drain: Accessories work with key out...

Hi Volks,

A local van has come my way looking for help with a phantom power drain.
Initially the radio was suspect, but even since it was removed the
problem persisted.

I took a look at it and the first thing I noticed was the digital clock
was working, even with the ignition key out. The windshield wipers and
the blower fans also work without the key in place.

I pulled each fuse in turn and none of the fuses pulled singly would
extinguish the clock and blower together. I also tried swapping the
ignition switch with a brand new unit but that didn't help either.

The van is a very early 1986 Westy, built 10/85. It has square
headlights and a 2.1 engine but no adjustable armrests.

Happy Trails,
