Stan was pretty active on the list around the time I got on board full time in about 2000. He had a nice website of ideas for Vanagon mods and DIY improvements. Alas it seems to be gone now. (Nowadays when I find a site with good ideas I want to keep forever, I print the page to a PDF file. There are various free programs to do this, PDF Creator is one we put on all the PCs at the college where I work.) I remember he had nice plans for the rack thing to mount an AC in the passenger door window. What I really loved was this gadget that was (iirc) 4" water pipe elbow mounted to/through a square of plexiglass. It was put in the sliding window opening with the open end of the elbow sticking out into the airflow. Supposedly funneled a huge amount of fresh air into the cab while driving in hot weather. I think there was a warning about high velocity bugs hurting when they hit the back of your neck! I love that kind of funky creative re-purposing problem solving stuff, and I find the Vanagon is a great platform to exercise that activity.
