Craig, The retired police cruisers that are sold at auction here in California still have the spotlights attached (and working). Whereas, most of the other goodies have been removed prior to sale. So... I'm pretty sure they're legal in Kaleeforeeya. So I just bought an older (and thus sturdy and well built!) Police style post mounted spot light at a VW show. I got it for a great price, but a few people have since informed me that if I install It.... doing so is illegal? I have searched online and cannot find any information regarding this. Does anyone know if these are actually illegal to possess? It would be nice to know before I drill a nice hole in the A pillar (Crap van, getting scrapped soon, going to be mindful of wires in the A Pillar). Thanks in advance! -Craig '85GL turned WESTY BOSTIG in the back
