Good points; in fact GT won't warranty the tranny unless the TC is also replaced, a fact that slipped my foggy brain this morning. I know some shops feel that a flush is sufficient; I don't know how many miles are on this van but if the tranny ate itself one could easily make the point that the TC has lived out its life as well. If he's going to go that far and since we're talking about real time and money now, he might consider having them go over the differential while it's out. Perhaps I was projecting but I was thinking he'd want to get out of ID as quickly and as cheaply as possible; at any rate I probably shouldn't post until I've had my coffee. : / Cya, Robert On Jul 14, 2010 9:59 AM, "Jeff Schwaia" <vw.doka@gmail.com> wrote: I would recommend against replacing just the automatic section. If he did fry the inners of the automatic, there will be plenty a crap circulating in the system, including inside the torque converter. A lot of that crap will end of inside the rebuilt transmission if he doesn't replace the torque converter as well. Additionally, I doubt if any reputable rebuilder would warranty the transmission without replacing the torque converter.
