that's the oil weight I like ...15W40. some diesel oils may still have zinc in them. you can also buy zinc additive. an engine rebuilder who's waterboxer engine I have .. said to break it in on 10W40 and some motorcycle oils that are only SL rated still have zinc in them. I did find some SL rated 10W40 and using it for a break-in oil. so yes...diesel oil may still have zinc in it. good idea on the goggle it about ZNDP and flat tappets. the reason most modern engines have roller cam followers is to reduce friction due to the zinc being taken out of modern oils. ----- Original Message ----- From: "cesar quiros" <cesarquiros@HOTMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, July 09, 2010 8:49 AM Subject: Fryday Oil Topic I just got a rebuilt engine (2.0 L AFC) and was told to use diesel oil (15W-40?) because it has zinc in it. My builder also said from time to time use Kendall Racing oil too. So questions is what oil do your guys use or is suggested. > Date: Fri, 9 Jul 2010 08:23:35 -0700 > From: starwagen@GMAIL.COM > Subject: Re: Fryday > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > > On Fri, Jul 9, 2010 at 7:59 AM, Evan Mac Donald <evanm@att.net> wrote: > > > There are several categories of bus pilots out there, and here are a > > few - > > Some of us just ignore these kind of reactions in the general > > populous... > > Some of us go along with it... > > Some of us drive our vans simply to see what reactions we will get THIS > > time... > > And some of us are the cause of it! > > > > Where do you fit in? > > > > Eh, all the the above? _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail is redefining busy with tools for the New Busy.
