The sealed compartments with screw down lids were for full campers all years. The hinged compartments were for passenger models all years, even ones with beds and screened windows. The sealing setup in the campers is a real POS, not planned for by VW, just a crappy retrofit done to achieve compliance with some RV/Housecar fire rating standard IMHO. Westfalias have the compliance stickers on them. I think we hammer this topic here every few years. The box has a vent on the forward side that appears to exit the box on the front but then turn downward. No swinging door, the only opening the only opening the gasketed lid, and the vent in the front wall. > > Now, I too have packing to do, and will be on my way to Spokane, Washington tomorrow morning. > > Sincerely, David McNeely >
