yeah, as i said before drill it.

and that nub will come right out once bolt head off and tension
released.

BINGO!  Jonce has remembered that once the head is off you've got an
inch of bolt to play with, not a wee little nub practically flush to
the surface.  Given that, it's the obvious answer.
