Neil, quarter amp is huge compared to what they're supposed to
draw.  The stock fan should draw about 60 milliamps with the fan
installed, not 270.  The Fridge-Mate replacement fan draws a similar amount.

Incidentally I believe the thermostat is set to come on at 140F and
stop at 120F.
