Subject:BF Goodrich All Terrain tires... (was Re: Tire question: Sorry, but ...)

Hi Volks,

Took the 88 Wolfsburg out to the Peterborough Bus Volk Festival this
past weekend and I'm happy to report that the BUS performed quite well
during its inauguration cruise.

One of the most striking elements on this particular vehicle are the
alloy rims clad with BF Goodrich All Terrain LT 8.5x27 tires. They are
Mud and snow rated with beefy treads and load range C capacity.
According to the data on the tire they have a triple-ply sidewall. The
first question I get usually is if it's a syncro.

Despite a very aggressive looking tread pattern these tires ran
surprisingly quiet at speeds up to around 70MPH, and handling is very
precise. Easily as quiet as the Vanco's on my Dad's westy.

Is anyone else around here running these? From the receipts in the glove
box it appears they are about twice the price of the Nexens I bought
last spring for my other vanagon.

I haven't checked the inflation pressure that they are running at yet,
but given the performance I am seeing right now I am not inclined to
change it. But I will document it anyway, so as to keep useful
maintenance records on hand.

Happy Trails,
