I did a lot of research on deep cycle batteries a few years ago when I was putting one into my van. Back then Odyssey batteries were actually made by Hawker Energy, and you could get them significantly cheaper under that brand name. I would imagine that is still true. Also I believe GoWesty sells a Hawker Energy deep cycle battery as part of their house battery kit. --Thomas On Wed, Sep 15, 2010 at 4:23 AM, Don Hanson <dhanson928@gmail.com> wrote: > On Wed, Sep 15, 2010 at 3:47 AM, Richard DIXON <dickd@sympatico.ca> wrote: > >> Like may of us, I have been looking for that perfect deep cycle battery >> that will fit in the tiny spot under our seat in our vanagons. Well I >> recently came across the Odyssey brand of batteries and they have introduced >> a new 48 series unit................ >> >> specs on the Odyssey PC1220 ( group 48 ) battery. >> >> CCA 680, 70 amp @ 20hr rate, 135 reserve capacity, 11.89x6.88x7.48price >> about $300 >> >> Problem is the height of the new battery - seems like it is about 3/4 " too >> high to fit into that compartment.I was wondering if any of you have had >> experience with this new battery; perhaps there is a way to overcome this >> problem. >> >> Looking forward to your replies,Richard >> > > $300 for a small deep cycle battery? Is it a gold/acid battery or > something? A bit pricey, don't cha think? > > I paid only $300 for a whole engine for my Jetta-powered vanagon...and that > included alternator, PS pump, AC compressor, etc. > > I've always wondered why those Odyssey batteries were sold at such high > prices. Never bought one, but I did have a dead one in an RV I inherited, > and of course, the warrantee had expired on that so I replaced it in Baja > for $60 with a deep cycle Varta or some such..Worked fine while I owned that > Bounder.. > > D.
