Lot's of interesting discussion and a couple of good youtube videos.
Blowing up a chicken egg in the microwave is not unusual it seems,
but having it leave the microwave not usable is... this one is a GE
made in March of 2008, model # WES1450M1BB and the top latch is broken.

Thanks for the interesting discussion, the great explanation of 'why'
and the idea of making the trip to the Grand Canyon (south rim) again.
