An interesting tidbit on gaskets/grommets/etc -

You may (or may not!) remember a few months ago when I asked on the list
about a fuel leak that occurred suddenly on my van. Either way, it was
determined that it was a grommet at the overflow tank that was bad. If I
tried to put more than 7-10 gallons in, or half a tank, it just came out!
Not very fun.

Well, a few weeks ago, I finally had a chance to do something about the leak
(I had just been putting about $20 worth of gas in - a major inconvenience
sometimes when needing to travel very far, but anyway . . .) we repaired a
tire on my daughters bike that just wouldn't hold air. It was determined
that the hole in the inner tube was fairly small so we cut a section out of
the good rubber and used it to make a grommet for the overflow tank!

Problem solved! I filled the tank a couple days ago and no leaks! I think
the filler neck tube has some issues, though, because it still smells kinda
gassy right by the filler inlet. But I'm so excited there are no more leaks
and I can fill the tank again.

I have no idea how long it will last but I do plan to change it out when
I've get a hold of the proper grommet that goes there.
