On my '82 westy, 1.8 8V digifant engine, VDO gages (as if that means
anything special), I seem to recall...(I may be out on the pressure
numbers)

at mild outside temps, say around 20C, hwy driving at 80 kph, oil
temps around 100-105, press. was above 45-55 psi.

faster driving increased temps, as of course, did hill climbing.
Highest I saw was 125 C, steep 1st and 2nd gear climb, heavily loaded
van, summer.

when engine cold, idle oil press around 70. when engine hot, idle oil
around 25-30.

always used synthetic, Mobil one 15W50

that engine did me proud, from '94 when I put it in, to 2008 when the
van was hit, no problems except for:

-leaky cam seal (fixed)
-sometimes a noisy lifter (went away after warm up)
-alternator bearing replacement
-afm replacement (tracks worn)
-injectors cleaned

jeez, might have been something else, cant recall. Point is, it never
let me down.

Those of you with Oil Temperature gauges, what kind of operating

you see? And Oil pressure gauges? Readings?

I just installed some into my 'new' inline Jetta powered 84..I
have no
idea of what the ranges of temp and pressure is deemed acceptable..

Anybody have actual gauges and want to share?
