Trouble is that the Ignition switch does more than just make the starter crank..It also has a different set of contacts that light off the X relay circuit that handles a few of the high load items like the headlights and heater fan and such..So just one relay won't take the place of the whole switch..Just one circuit at a time. But Yes, any of the basic relays in our vans will interchange and be able to be wired to most any circuit you want to isolate. I use the key buzzer circuit at the ign swx to power the radio and its amps with a relay. Anyone know if the typical air cooled Bosch hot start relay kit , plug and play for the air cooled Vanagon and Bays, work on a Vanagon? John LiMBO David says" The ignition switch *is* a highly stressed component, somewhat like the light switch. If you want it to last forever, use it to drive relays that do the actual switching."
