Hi all. Much thanks for the help. Got home in one piece (in spite of my f'up West of Port Angelos. Pics to follow ;) Here's a youtube link to a quick video I shot of my engine running on 10w30. I had just pulled a long grade in upper 60's F weather: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8AysIQrhfg You can hear it more in the last few seconds but it is audible at the beginning too. Sorry audio is so crappy. Any takers on what it might be? Running 15w40 noise seems to be gone though ambient temps were lower after oil change. My IR gun at coolant hoses and head showed head being hottest at 190F. Upper hose much hotter than lower which was cool. Rad showed normal temps too. Same temps I saw when swap was first running ok ~ 2 years ago. <shrugs> Neil. -- Neil Nicholson '81 VanaJetta 2.0 "Jaco" http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/ http://groups.google.com/group/vanagons-with-vw-inline-4-cylinder-gas-engines
