Subject:turn signal indicator weirdness

Okay, when the high beam indicator stopped working a few months ago I replaced the bulb and that fixed it. When the turn signal indicator on the dash stopped working a few weeks back I figured it was the bulb also and would eventually replace it as well. However, over the weekend I had occasion to use the four-way flashers and the bulb for the signals worked for that, but does not when used simply for a left or right turn.

I honestly can't recall if before the failure the bulb did actually work for the four-ways, but it does now in addition to the four-way switch lighting up. Interestingly, the bulb lights for the four-way when the key is off but not when the key is on. Turn signals, of course, only work with the key on but the bulb does not work for them. Signal lights at all four corners work when they're supposed to for both the flashers and the signals. What gives?
