The key to Dave's comment is "coming in from the cold". Your skin and extremities are cold, the alcohol sends blood to the skin and extremities, which feel warmer. Presumably you would be standing by a fireplace, re-warming your core, holding the schnapps. Definitely don't drink alcohol to warm up if you are remaining or returning outdoors, unless hypothermia sounds appealing In end stage you will feel quite warm, but, minutes later, you will very likely be partially naked and quite irretrievably dead.
