Roger, I've considered going in through the slider. At some point, that may work out ok but initially, I won't be able to do much stepping up/down or bending too much as it's my low back. Might be different if it was my upper back. Someone suggested renting a car for the short term. That might work, I don't know. It'll be about 6 weeks and renting one might turn out rather expensive especially since I won't be able to do my own driving for a majority of that time and my 17 year old daughter will have to be my chauffeur. ;-) Rental places don't generally allow drivers under the age of 25. Thanks for the thoughts! I do appreciate the comments I've gotten so far. *Annie Anderson* Blogger, Designer, Thinker & Mom web: annieandersonblog.com email: lsandrsn@gmail.com twitter: silverlunace <http://twitter.com/silverlunace> facebook: anniesanderson <http://facebook.com/anniesanderson> *Blazin' a trail where there is no path.* On Thu, Dec 2, 2010 at 1:07 AM, Roger Whittaker <rogerwhitt1@gmail.com>wrote: > dear back to the vanagon > our vans have a feature that sets them apart from virtually every form > of other vehicle > the walk thru between the seats > so ... get a rubber maid step and place this out side the van at the > sliding door > grasp the suicide handle by the door /roof and step up with ease ... > my 90 year old mom with bad knees can do so with out too much trouble > once in the van she can walk around with ease and i then step in to > hold her hands while she plops back into the back seat... > you on the other hand will simply make your way with head bowed if you > are really tall ... to the front and lift up arm rest and slide on in > or sit down and then turn whole body to driving position ... reverse > to exit ... > tie a good string to step so you can pull up and in with out having to > bend over after aboard .. > just like the fender on your boat ... > permission to carry on captain > carry on seaman > aiy aiy sir > yours > > On Wed, Dec 1, 2010 at 10:39 PM, Annie Anderson <lsandrsn@gmail.com> > wrote: > > I found out from my doctor earlier this week that I am going to need to > have surgery on my back to repair some damaged discs, probably near the end > of January. > > > > My problem, and where I need the advice and help is, I'm not going to be > able to get in and out of my van once I have the surgery.
