BTW, like most cars, the Vanagon has no "main fuse" between the main
starting battery and the starter.

The heavy cable is routed fairly securely.

I've never heard of a Vanagon catching fire because of the main 12V cable
shorting out.

Vanagon fuel lines, now that's another story....
