Only a guess, but having done it (and paid to have it done, though a long time ago), I'd shoot for about five hours and $450 - 500. If you like, I can call my go-to guy and ask what his book allows. The sagaof switching engines continues. My local Tech has bailed on my engine swap. To be honest his work place is extremely busy and extra time until well after the holidays is mandatory. So he's shot after a 10 day. A local "shop" tech who is extremely experienced on Vanagons is going to give me a price on flipping engines. Who wants to take a guess at this mysterious number?
