I wouldn't doubt that it was. FWIW, my previous Vanagon, an '84 Westy, never did have a properly working temp gauge. I bought it with a seized engine, so I don't know if it worked before. I stuck a used 2.1 in it and at first it worked. Then the temp gauge and the fuel gauge would drop to zero in unison. When one started working, so would the other one. I checked every connection, replaced the resistor on the instrument gauge, the gauge itself, the sending unit-nothing ever fixed it. Both gauges worked maybe 20% of the time. And yes, it is scary driving a waterboxer without a working temp gauge! Jeff Jeff Stewart ----- "Jeff Lincoln" <magikvw@GMAIL.COM> wrote: Anthony, Darn!!! I was hoping that cluster I sold you would do the trick. I can assure you it worked perfectly in the bus when I was using it. I hope you can get to the bottom of this - driving without that operating properly would be a little scary.
