There are a couple of assumptions there.  First, that I'm going to leave the
van that way.  Second, assuming I did, that some thief would figure out what
was there and then take the time to unscrew the turnbuckle.  In such a case
a thief that is serious about getting inside the van is just going to break
a window anyway, much faster.  Since I have no intention of leaving the van
unattended with the hatch latch in place I'm not going to worry about it.
And that gives me an adjustable hatch latch.....
