To all who have lived on Vancouver Island, who are the recommended VW shops for Vanagon repairs/engine rebuilds?
Also any advice on reputable paint shops?

Ditto on Al & Neil's reference to the Roadhaus list of repair shops.
Just reviewed the list and there are a couple current updated reports on a few of the shops on VI.

The VW Dealers, located at Nanaimo and Courtenay, are both Vanagon friendly and experienced.
The Nanaimo Dealer actually stocks rebuilt WBXer engines. I do not know who rebuilds the engines.
The VW Dealer in Victoria had a stellar reputation. Current management avoids working on Vanagons�. 8-(

Paint Shops? Only local knowledge which is not much help unless you drive to Courtenay or Campbell River.
