There are several versions of the chrome VW hubcaps. The earliest ones, which are more rounded in look, will not fit Vanagons at all (nor Buses after 1970). Among the versions that fit 1971 and later Buses, there are two different ones that look almost exactly the same. The earlier ones were slightly shallower and won't clear the Vanagon hub. (If my memory serves me correctly they will fit the rear of a Vanagon but not the front.) That is apparently what you bought. The later version of the "1971-up" hubcap looks almost identical unless you see the two side by side, but is a fraction deeper and therefore fits both Vanagons and Buses. If you wanted to buy them new, these ones (at $19.95 each) fit Vanagons: http://busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=251601151A - Ron Salmon The Bus Depot, Inc. www.busdepot.com (215) 234-VWVW _____________________________________________ Toll-Free for Orders by PART # : 1-866-BUS-DEPOT
