You cannot just insert an LED where an incandescent bulb was located.  You need the proper resistor for the LED to be set into the circuit first !  Just put back the right bulb.  It will outlast your ownership, unless you intend to keep that van until your over 100 !   I have them on my Vanagon New Parts webpage, if you cannot find them elsewhere.
