Having dealt with Vanagon Syndrome in both an '85 and in my '90 I agree,
strongly.  The symptoms you describe are NOT the symptoms of the
"Intermittent Drivability  Problem" (as VW called it in their service
bulletin) or as commonly called "Vanagon Syndrome" in the Vanagon community
today.
