This is correct, simply adding a turbo to a 1.6 NA will kill off your perfectly good NA engine. Piston squirters and sodium filled valves are what come to mind from the dusty archives as the main differences in the turbo version of that engine. At the minimum you should start with a 'real' 1.6 TD .. at least then you have piston oil squirters and a head made a little better . your best bang for the buck though .. is 1.9 NA ...very nearly a 100% 'bolt-in' ...good torque. if you have the stock DZ very low geared DZ transaxle that's stock oin 82 D. Westy's..you need to replace that with a better trans too. scott www.turbovans.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "ralph meyermann" <ralphmeyermann@GMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2011 4:23 PM Subject: 82westie 1.6 diesel upgrade >I need more power but what do i need to do for turbo > > On Mar 22, 2011 4:59 PM, "John C..." <jcarp1910@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi Dave, > > I'm assuming you have a manual? > Also love to hear from folks > who have them with their auto's! > > I believe GoWesty will install them free in their rebuilt Autos if you > buy the Trans & LSD at the same time. > > best, > JC... > > On Tue, Mar 22, 2011 at 3:17 PM, David Vickery > <david_vickery@yahoo.com >>wrote: > > >> Hi Ben, thanks for your post, I got mine from Daryl too.
