JB will fatigue and crack. It's good stuff, but it's still just glue. A MIG can put down an adequate spot weld with surprising little heat. You don't need a long bead to hold the bushing in place. If worry persists, just use a damp rag and cool the area after tacking. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Troy Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2011 10:47 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Front end suspension Speaking of upper control arm bushings, is there any reason a person could not use JB Weld instead of spot welding those things in? Seems like all the problems that come about are from heat. I believe "loogy", the guy who sells spacers and so forth on the samba, mentioned he installed some without spot welding at all, and I don't recall if he ran into problems or not. JB Weld is pretty tough stuff, and if it worked okay would certainly prevent any issues from heat. This is a job I need to tackle myself this summer, so just wanted to ask if anyone's done that.
