I am one of 3 Vintage air units in Vanagon's that I know of. Brent Heinlein in Calif. did the first and I copied his purchase order and modified it a bit. http://blakeheinlein.googlepages.com/vanagon-airconditioning The 3rd ended up having a shop do his. It is a job and a half to do and being a mechanic with lots of basic experience, I can't figure that the normal person could finish it. I have AC equipment, hose crimping tools, etc and it took all of my backyard savvy to get 'er done... This is all fine when parked (and I try not to spend much time in places where A/C is a daily use item). However, my cooling (burning?) need is while driving. I just contacted the Vintage Air people about Vanagon installation. As for evaporative cooling, any listmembers familiar with swampy.net units, or recommendation for better? Cut hole in roof vs. tear apart dash. Hmmm.
