Great instructions. Very clear. A couple of the photos were difficult to
make out due to poor images, but even I was able to get the job done.
Nary a drip. Except that after working really really hard to screw down
the new oil filter onto the sandwich adapter, getting it on as tight as
I could by hand, we ran the engine and it started dripping. My son
climbed under and said the filter was not very tight at all and turned
it on harder. Vibration, he speculated, might have shaken it loose.
Incompetence, I think, had something to do with it. Though I did haul on
it really hard.
The instructions advised against using an oil filter wrench, saying that
a good hand-tightening should be sufficient once the seal swelled, but
the leak was not insubstantial, so we used a smidge of wrenching. That
did it.
Now I'm thinking I want to install a temperature-operated switch and a
fan to force air through the cooler when the van is working hard but not
moving very fast. Like climbing up long, steep desert grades at 4,000
rpm in first gear.
Not sure where to put a thermal switch or what to use.
