I've seen where some place the speakers at the bottom of the door panels -
seems a decent solution but I didn't want the music playing at my ankles :)
Plus - I have an 11 year old and I know no matter how many times I would
tell him the passenger speaker would end up getting the crap kicked out of
it.

I think I can trim the grills down so that the glove box will clear - and
I'm sure I can find some solution for the window cranks too.

Like I said it was a good trade for a minor/temporary inconvenience - my
drive to work today was sweet!
