Yes, and you could make up something pretty compact.

I had to run my '84 Westy for a bit with a battery that wouldn't fit
in the box.  I turned a couple of fake battery posts out of brass on
the lathe and soldered them onto the ends of a couple short battery
cables I had lying around.
