Some looks like duct tape, especially the stuff made for quick and
temporary patching of small (often bullet-sized) holes.  An awful lot
of it is clear polyurethane, similar to the protective film used on
the front of cars, where it is typically applied to bumpers, fenders,
and the leading edge of the hood.
