there is a very secret tire sticker that even tire stores don't know to look at. It's right inside the drivers door.. if those air-cooled vanagons have them. and whatever tires the have .. they might look at what's on the van and ask for one that matches . so no one could answer that question very easily except the people that are with the van. I would expect 195/75 R 14 LT .. or perhaps 185 R14 C .. and .. I can not say enough how much I do not recommend 8 ply rating 185 R 14's on the front ! rear ..they are great. and 6PR or C load rating in the front, or LT with C load rating in the front .. just not 8PR's on the front. Too harsh riding. Night and day difference. but hey .. if the sticker is there.. and they sure are there on all watercooled vanagons starting in 1982.. if they can see and read, they should look at that sticker. and even tires stores are not smart enough to do that sadly. ----- Original Message ----- From: "al sinclair" <alvanagon@GMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, July 01, 2011 12:18 AM Subject: what tire spec for westie in the boonies > '81 Westie burst tire tonight far from home, few small towns around.
