An old HiPer Type1 engine trick which is excellent, is to fill the oil pump cavity full of vaseline. This creates the instant suction you want to get the oil flowing. The small amount of vaseline melts in the heat of the oil, and is gone. I did this last year when I built a 2276cc Bug engine. Primed instantly.
