Success!  Denis Haynes was closest to the pin, "remove high pressure oil
sensor and force lubricant back to the oil pump. Actually. some combination
of that plus rotating the engine backwards by hand, pressurizing the block
with an air hose through the dip stick tube, cranking with a remote starter
and the sheer will of the Vanagon Collective did the trick. Whew.
