vanagons come with 3 basic kinds of engines in them. you could start by saying which one. probably a waterboxer and that sounds like an 'oil gallery plug' to me. I have probably never seen one leak. here's a very effective low tech leak testing system.. get baby power, foot powder..fine talcum powder and sprinkle in on the engine .. just like you were driving in heavy dust. the leaking spots will be very apparent after a while. if it is leaking.. my mind goes to one of two general directions.. repair it in place somehow... or real disassembly and a real 're-do' . IF there is a leak there.. it may need to be staked in place again, or more.. I don't think it's a part you can normally buy .. though there have to be some somewhere.....like generic metric plugs or a threaded plug of some kind .. but that's getting pretty tricky/intense. do the talcum powder test first is what I suggest. I do sell very special german talcum powder from The Fatherland that is official genuine VW leak testing powder...but it's very expensive. I could be wrong, of course. There is a "freeze" plug on the right of the crankshaft pulley, that I see seeping oil and probably even leaking when the engine gets hot. My question is; can it be fixed? Is it leaking because of oil pressure behind it, or it's just oil being there without pressure? I guess, Scott would know it for sure, but there maybe others just as knowledgable. Good wishes, Zoltan
