OK, maybe it's a long shot, but many years ago my first Vanagon purchase moving up from Bays was an '84, and the first trip i took it on was to Everybus in NC. Going down it was fine, suddenly on the way back it couldn't pass a gas station-I mean like 5-6 miles per gallon! (thankfully this was back in the days of "cheap" gas) What I found was that someone had plugged the vacuum port in the airbox (left side of the engine just ahead of the distributor). The fuel pressure regulator should have been connected here, instead it was tee'd off the distributor vacuum advance. The "plug" had fallen off the vacuum port on the airbox. Replacing all the vacuum hoses and hooking them up correctly fixed the problem. Jeff Jeff Stewart ----- Original Message ----- A recent purchase, came with the low mileage New O2 sensor New injectors Replaced throttle body with one that I knew was good New spark plugs and all the other small stuff cylinder pressure 110-125 across all 4 swapped AFMs with my other vanagon that gets better mileage the connector clip on the temps sensor II to the ECU is loose so it's zip-tied in place the temp sensor II always reads HOT based on the Bentley test timing seems OK, will get up and go when needed no coolant in the oil Any help would be appreciated.
