then you are in good shape.
Just find a rebuildable engine ..
I'd say next question, if going with a 1.9 is ..
NA or TD ?

I have a few good engine machinists i've worked with and im competent at assembling engines i have about a dozen that i built. So if if I have a good core to work with I can do the rest myself.

    hi..
yes....that's one of the 'bad' things about diesel engines .
they can cost a lot to get in the first place.

good used AAZ is perhaps 2,500 to 3,500 for a very good one.
Be REAL CAREFUL about very rusted looking AAZ engines.

    1.9 NA starts at 1,700 ..
though ....most diesel engines I see these days, really need serious freshening up, or rebuilding even.
People often don't take care of them much at all and they get worn out.

    tdi ..
if electronic ..that is a WHOLE other world..
about 20 times as complex. ..
not just in the details of the electronics ..
but in prevailing over weird problems.
The tdi guru's are on top of them ..
but for normal people ...it's a huge and long learning curve often, let's say.
