Does that rebuild have a new or re-worked shaft? They wear just behind the bearing. If the forks are flattened where they push on the bearing it should be replaced to prevent clutch chatter. I didn't see it. BTW, thanks everyone for your replies--something someone said prompted me to better search terms and I found a thread here discussing it: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=472854 Looks like it's normal not to have it and people debate whether that's a good thing :). Thanks again everyone--I didn't want to put stuff together only to have to take it apart shortly after. mike > alistair > > ' > > > On 2011-08-06, at 6:25 AM, Dennis Haynes wrote: > > > No return spring for the hydraulic clutch set up and yes it is normal for > > the release bearing to always be in contact with the pressure plate. > > > > Dennis > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf > Of > > John Jensen > > Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 10:49 PM > > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > > Subject: Re: return mechanism for throwout fork? > > > > My (perhaps faulty) recollection is that there is a spring on the lever > arm > > outside the housing.
