I would not worry about a vent hose in the battery compartment.It is
sealed and our  90 amp. alternators our unlikely to cause outgasing. Check
your water level in your batterys and wear eye protection. I guess if one
were using an adjustable regulator and it was cranked up it could be a
problem. Not so much for most folks.
