Not to butt in to this conversation, but....I also have a whining manual
tranny on my '80 Camper.  It started a few hundred miles ago (I think)
and is most pronounced in first and second.  It still whines in third,
but a bit less and not noticeably in fourth.  So I gather from the
conversation that this is likely a bad input shaft (main) bearing.  I
also gather (hopefully) I can expect to get a few more thousands of
miles before it fails completely.  Is this a reasonable guess?  I have a
couple of spares trannies, but no "spare" cash at the moment for a
rebuild.  I'd like to put the repair off a couple of months.
