Martin has a VW diesel engine, which is an inline overhead cam engine. It uses a timing belt but VW wbx engines don't. The wbx engine is a push-rod engine and the cam is adjacent to the crankshaft and driven by a timing gear on the crank. No timing belt or chain, just gears that mesh. Or are there symptoms that I would notice and go from there? It has about 50K miles on a rebuild according to paperwork the previous owner provided to me. > > mcneely >
