Yes, I recently broke down 50+ miles from home in my '87 Westy.  I had AAA,
but my daughter (who was with me) had AAA plus.
If we used mine, It would have been very expensive to get it home.  We used
her's (she had to be present to win!),
and as a matter-of-fact, it covers the person and is applicable to any
vehicle that she's in at the time of need.
Your own, a friend's a rental, whatever you're in; you're covered!

I will say this. The tow is all about you - not the vehicle. Ask them
about that. They have towed vehicles for me that I was driving, but
didn't own - and had the misfortune of breaking down on the highway. But
it may very well be that whatever vehicle you are in, to qualify for a
tow it must be a registered vehicle.
